What is the First Car to Achieve 100 Mile Per Gallon (MPG) in the UK

In the last 30 years car manaufacturers have made little improvement in real terms to the average MPG that UK cars achieve.

But finalise the penny has dropped with car manufacturers and with very high fuel prices in the UK car manunfacturers seem to be making progress in leaps and bounds.

A number of cars achieve around 60 MPG to 80 MPG average (mixed urban and extra urban) miles per gallon.

But what car maker is going to be the first to have a standard road car in the UK that achieves 100 MPG ?
